The next step

I'm trying to stay mentally positive as much as I can, a few days ago I had a bizarre dream about gnomes... something like I was driving with a couple friends in the car, and there was a gnome on the side of the road. I mentioned it to them and they laughed and didn't believe me, and refused to look back. Whenever I start feeling that way I just have to root myself in my activities to keep focused and not start thinking too much about things I can't control.

Today I was outside and heard like what I would call a "squeak" or some vocalization, but it struck me as being different than normal animal sounds like squirrels. I was in the driveway and heard it two or three times, and it's tough to know the direction when you can't see through the trees. It probably lasted a total of 10-15 seconds and that was the end of it. Every time I hear something like that I get shivers because I know something is there but I can't see it, and something about it is just off..that's the only way I know how to explain the feeling. Much like the old fashioned "It's quiet...yea, too quiet" sensation.

I wish I could predict this stuff each time it happened so I could be sitting there with a recording device, but obviously that's impossible. It can be frustrating nonetheless.

I'm thinking of the next most logical step to take in dealing with this, whether it's trying to collect more video and audio, or interaction again..hopefully not where my items get stolen. Next time I leave something out I'm going to be securing it somehow.

It's gone

Well, I go outside this morning to check out the clipboard and notice that it's totally missing. Along with the bench being pulled down on the far side.

I walked back a little from it and took another photo.

I've looked all around this area trying to see if it's halfway covered in the leaves, or if it's lying nearby and there's not a trace. It's surprising but not quite what I was hoping for.

The clipboard

As mentioned in a previous post I am trying something new, this evening I placed a clipboard on a bench with a simple note...in hopes that something will use it to communicate. Now my first feeling is that the chances are very slim but it's a different approach, so I'll see how it goes.

I took some photos:

(The note that will probably not be understood if something ends up finding it)

(A view of the area around the clipboard)

Also notice that it's a neon green color to make it easier to spot if it gets moved or ends up on the ground. I'm going to be checking on this in the morning, fully expecting nothing to have changed but optimistic with the possibility. I also have been debating all day in my mind whether or not to leave out a camera all night...but finally decided that in order to do that I would have to leave it out, risking it being taken. Secondly it's not great at picking things up at night (as in some of the youtube videos), and thirdly the presence of a recording device is a major deterrent to anything that is conscious of being seen. The goal in this case is to make these things comfortable enough to interact with the clipboard.

Changing of the seasons

Since my last update I've done two audio analyzations with neither of them containing anything out of the ordinary. I was very careful about not accidentally looking over any sections and was very thorough, unfortunately things like that do not happen on cue and the time I captured sounds may have been an extreme case of luck. Either way I am not deterred in my efforts to keep trying, and am planning on using new methods that I'm working on that involve coaxing interaction (like the paper/pen method).

I have taken some photos of the forest to show the seasonal change compared to the winter-like scenery before in my videos. It's really thick and the ticks are out in full force.

(This is the area right beside the gravel driveway)

(This is about the same location the whistle I heard came from, behind this treeline.)

(Downhill in the direction of the ground tunnels that I've shown in the videos.)

New audio review

More audio was recorded last night and will be analyzed, it took me longer than normal because I've been somewhat busy, there's been some more strange noises but not anything worth going into deep detail about. I'm hoping it yields something comparable to the other results, and isn't an impossible case of trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice.

I'll take some photos of how much the woods have changed since the last videos, there's thick leaf cover on the trees now and less visibility overall. I am also happy to say that I have not been carried off into the woods in my sleep just yet, as some of you may have been wondering.

This week

After the startling results of the last night of audio recording I am definitely wanting to continue with this method. I'm going to be leaving the recorder out again, and the debate over whether to use audacity to check for audio spikes still leaves me on the fence. It might make it easier to review hours of data but could also open the possibility of missing something subtle. Nevertheless I will be recording audio again this week, hopefully something will show up again.

I've also been giving serious thought to other methods of "communication" like leaving out a pen and paper, or more food, or something enticing. I've had great suggestions both here and on the paranormal boards and I will think of a way to put them together into an effective method that is inviting but not too obvious. The past week since my last post has been pretty mellow but there have been a few bizarre moments that leave me scratching my head. Unfortunately there would have been no way to predict their timing so they were not captured by any recording devices like I would normally try to do.

A couple days ago I stepped out onto the back steps and heard for just a second what sounded like whimpering, or crying. I've got to say I wasn't expecting that, and it's kind of disturbing to hear that coming from the woods. I said out loud something like "Hello? Is everything alright?" knowing that whatever it was probably does not speak English. Then nothing. Whatever was causing the sound stopped immediately and I didn't hear anything after that. I even went up in the direction I heard it and looked around (which would be directly into the woods, in the general direction of the ground tunnels) and there was nothing that caught my attention as being out of the ordinary. No movement, voices, or anything.

Last night I was actually woken up by what sounded like someone hacking up phlegm outside, I heard it once (which was what woke me up) then about 20 seconds later I heard it again. I was still fuzzy from waking up and it's one of those moments when you think "Ok, that was odd but maybe I'm just still half asleep."

As strange as those fleeting moments are, I try to save these updates for when I actually have some documentation to go along with it, but I figure it would be interesting to relay them to you anyway.

A rough interpretation (part 2)

This is the actual so-called transcript that was posted, although I have trouble making out any of these words when I listen to it myself. The original audio was slowed down somewhat to help make out the words:

"I did a little tinkering and it's still noisy. but you can hear it better now.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CKV9O83C

Warning the volume might be high. I took the first part where they talked and the last part. I'll write a transcript as best as I can.

Transcript part 1.
2 voices.

1: wooina Heii-nahta (emphasis on Heii)
2: woinette
1: hei nh *mumbles*

voice 1 drags his vowels out when he speaks. voice 2 speaks pretty fast.

part 2: (after the pause)
1: *angry mumbling - or possibly loud chewing* followed by "dajeega-gag"
2. "wajjejje"
1: "DAJEEGA-GAG. *some mumbling*

From what I can tell it seems to be the same two voices in both conversations. I can definitely recognise the deep one who later raises his voice - due to his distinct manner of speaking. The other one i THINK is the same but I'm not 100% sure. the voices seem to match though.

The fact that the deep one repeats himself louder shows that they do indeed speak and they have a language."

A rough interpretation

Someone has been kind enough to make a rough transcript of what they think is being said, keep in mind this is only someone's interpretation. They also loaded the audio file into audacity to analyze the ups and downs on the graph and posted their results. This is a direct quote from an anonymous poster on the paranormal forums with an image from the audacity file:

"Well I didn't clean it up, just ripped the audio and put it in Audacity to see if the chatter stood out visually... I have to zoom in as much as I can on the narrow range around 0.00db to see it, but it definitely sticks out. I made a picture to show how the sound appears in Audacity, with little markers showing where things happen (the flat, uniform part making up much of the graph is general white noise, and the repeated clusters of three or four single spiked "lines" of loudness are the camera mechanically clicking):

From A to B: First quiet sounds of the weird chattering noises - like I said, the three spikes are camera noises. This first occurence doesn't stick out at all, really.

C: The chattering begins again, very quiet or far off. Again, still not very noticeable at all.

D: The chattering gets louder, and you can clearly see the volume starting to fluctuate up and down in range, in contrast to the flat areas of silence - it continues fluctuating like this until around I, when the chatter fades out.

E to F: The camera does its regular round of clicking noises, but the fluctuation is definitely different from the kind you see in the other click-sections, due to the chatter still going on. It's got a lot more tiny but lengthy spikes, apart from the standard three or four large short ones.

G to H: Can't miss that one at all. This is the loudest, most distinct mumbling of chatter in the video, and it's really obvious.

I to J: The chatter quiets back down to its previous level after H, but is still audible and noticeable up until the area of I through J, when the camera makes another set of clicks, which is for whatever reason softer and shorter than usual - I guess it's just going into a different type of operation or level of activity, since the next, final set of clicks is also quiet. Anyway, the chattering noises fade out during this set of clicks, and the audio level returns to flat silence.

tl;dr: It's somewhat subtle, not able to point out the quietest of noises (at least not at the timeframe magnification I had, which shows about 1 minute at a time), and it could still take OP quite a while to sift through a whole night of recording, but it's definitely possible to see instances of unusual sound, and would likely save OP loads of time, since he could find the times that would be most likely to reveal something with close listening."

No title can do this update justice

When I first heard this I absolutely got goosebumps on my arms, this is the exact same sound I heard the night I was "whistled" at. It only lasts a total of 46 seconds, out of hours of audio.

You will need to turn the volume up high to hear it. The periodical mechanical sound is the internal camera noise. I started recording Saturday night before going to sleep and left it running until I got up the next morning. The time would have been up after 6:00 before the sun is completely up. I had been reviewing the audio over the past couple days and today discovered this while sifting through it, and was totally surprised to say the least. I have added a caption during the seconds when the voices can be heard, although it's near impossible for me to make anything out.

Audio results

After carefully listening to all of the recorded audio, the only things I could distinguish were loud geese sounds, a rooster, and the occasional dog barking. I am leaving the recorder on again tonight, hopefully something will show up.

First audio analysis

The first batch of nocturnal audio was recorded last night with the digital camera's audio function, I will be reviewing it over the next couple days. If anything out of the ordinary turns up I will post it, I left it on while I was sleeping near the window that is in front of my bed. Sounds from outside come through depending on how far away they are from the house, obviously I have reservations about leaving it outside due to the possibility of it being stolen or getting wet.

There's no way to know what night is a good night for doing that sort of thing, you kind of have to just hope that something was caught. The weather is warming up now and the days are getting longer, it will be interesting to see if that has an effect on what is going on.

More tunnel footage

As promised today I went out and recorded another video covering the other ground tunnels in the woods that were previously not seen. I also shot a quick video of a pine thicket on the way back to the house that was the result of an ice storm years ago.

Update (March 16th)

I haven't made a post in days so I'm sure your wanting some new info, I have been pretty busy the past week or so, but I am planning on making another video to show you the rest of the ground tunnels on the property that you didn't see in the first one. These are farther into the woods and harder to get to.

As far as activity has been concerned, compared to the previous incidents it has been considerably mild, maybe a sound here or there that doesn't sound quite right...but my theory is now that I have been walking around with my digital camera and taking photos it's obvious to "them" what I am attempting to do. Thus prompting them to become more low-key, however I am prepared to record audio for several hours one night so that I can review it over a several day period.

I'd like to make it count though, and pick a night when I have either a gut feeling or hear something before hand, but of course it's not going to guarantee that I capture anything. I will be going to a Deerhunter concert Sunday night and will be absent for several hours, this might be a good time to attempt this.

I hope to record video of the other tunnels within the next couple days.

From now on...

From now on I intend to pick a night of the week and leave a recording device on, I certainly wouldn't have time to review an entire nights worth of data every day or it would be like a full time job, but if I pick a particular night to leave it out I can review the evidence over the following days.

I've also been taking photos inside the house to compare when I return from being out, so if something is moved I will know it. Between these methods and just being aware in general, I think the odds of capturing something is greatly increased.

Also thank you to the person that suggested audacity, I actually have audacity already, but I have found the the computer microphone is not very good at picking up sounds that are delicate or at a distance. I will try to find something suitable for the job, believe it or not the audio recording mechanism in the digital camera works pretty well at that sometimes.

Last night's (March 6th) footage

Well today was a busy day but tonight I was able to get last night's footage off the camera and upload it:

pt 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zurn_Sm1XDY

pt 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x2Unhwf-vc

Since the snow has cleared I also went to look for the object that was tossed out of the lattice, can't find anything that jumps out at me as being the object. Either it's not there anymore or it's something that blends in with what's already on the ground over there.

When I went out today I took photos inside the house to compare when I got back in case anything got moved around or displaced, everything seems to be in it's rightful position. I do intend on doing that whenever I go out though in preparation for when it does happen again.

Chatter followed by whistle

The last couple of days were fairly quiet, nothing much out of the ordinary happened at all. Well tonight that's not the case.

Around 12:35-12:40 I was winding down and was at the point where I could go to bed when I heard distinct voices through the wall coming from outside. When I say "voices" I mean plural, definitely more than one, and honestly I don't think they were talking in English. Also the speed was much quicker than what I'm used to hearing, I have to say I've never heard anything quite like that before. They peaked in volume after about 15 seconds then trailed off into silence. I immediately got the video camera, turned on the flood lights and quickly went out. I shot a few minutes of video scanning the wood line from standing on the front porch and the driveway, although it was very dark and not much of it is going to show up on video, but you can hear me talking.

I was extremely nervous and walked around to the back yard to listen and look, then after I heard nothing for a few minutes I turned the video off and was going to go in... not but a few seconds after the video went off there was a very loud whistle coming from the wood line. The type of whistle that is made to get your attention as if to say "Hey, you!", and it startled the heck out of me. I instantly turned the video back on and started recording again, this time from the back steps. It was too dark to see but you can still hear me talking, and I was straining to see where the source was or hear any movement in the woods.

After that I went in and grabbed the most convenient flashlight and went to the wood line to look, nervous and cold, but didn't see anything. At one point I thought I heard movement in front of me but I just chalked it up to already having my adrenaline pumping and nerves. The snow is mostly melted now so unfortunately there are no tracks to document this time.

Obviously with all the excitement I can't sleep right away...I'm just trying to let my mind come down from the experience. *Deep Breaths*

On another note, tomorrow I plan on going out for a few hours, and I intend to take photos of different areas and objects inside the house to compare them when I get back in case something gets displaced inside.

The videos I was mentioning earlier are still on my camera until I have a chance to upload them, for now I'm going to get some rest.

Sounds at 1:45 A.M.

Last night I went to bed pretty early (for me) at around 12:30, after laying there and not getting to sleep for a while I decided it would be best to get up and watch a little bit of television then try again. I kept replaying things in my mind, especially the footage of the object coming out of the lattice, so my mind was still trying to analyze things while my body was trying to rest.

I got up and went to the sofa and started watching a biography of The Monkees at about 1:30, and 15 minutes into it I heard what almost sounded like a rubbing, or rustling sound at the front door. The only way I can describe it is like fabric or material sliding against the surface of the door. I was tired but it got my attention, so I got up to look, ready to try to catch whatever was making the sound before it has the chance to disappear. There are two flood lights, one on each side of the house, so I flicked those on really fast and poked my head out. Saw and heard absolutely nothing until I noticed the tracks leading away from the front door.

This photo was taken earlier today, I knew that they would not dissipate over night so I waited until there was better lighting this morning.

On another note, today being my birthday I just got back from having lunch at a restaurant, fully anticipating the possibility of coming home to see something out of place. However everything seems normal right now, for some reason things tend to happen more when I'm not braced for it.

Blog background info

I guess if you just discovered this blog then I should explain some about what it's about, the people that already know this can just skip over it.

In a nutshell I've been experiencing some kind of bizarre activity where things go missing and wind up out of place, hearing sounds like chattering when I know that there is no one else around, seeing biped type movement that doesn't appear to be any common animal, and other oddities in general. I live in a very rural mountainous area and if ever someone would run into such phenomenon it would be here. When odd things happen I try to record it in some format and I have been posting it both on a paranormal board and now on YouTube.

This video below contains photos of a spoon that went missing from my home and ended up outside among strange tracks. You can read the video description or read in the channel info if you want to know more.

Video Documentation of high-activity locations

For my first post I'm going to just post a video from my YouTube channel until I have something new to post. This video is just showing the main area around the two barns where I've seen activity and one of the holes in the ground in the woods. Someone had a good enough eye to spot that something was tossed out of the lattice from underneath the blue barn at 51-53 seconds in, I hadn't even realized it while I was filming.
